Self-monitoring — a great learning strategy
    2018-10-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Although it is said that making mistakes comes naturally when learning English, we still feel afraid of making them. For one, it is because we want to be perfect, but also, it is because we are often at a loss in the face of mistakes.

Today I have learned a new strategy in experimental class — “self-monitoring.”

This can help us rid ourselves of confusion in the face of our mistakes. It is a method of noticing and learning from our errors, identifying mistakes by understanding or producing a new language, and finding the reasons why we make them so that we can avoid making them again in the future. Compared with my previous methods, I think it will be very useful for me.

In the past, I usually corrected my wrong answers and ignored tracking the sources of these mistakes. Therefore, for me, it is just a simple correction in the way I think.

Now I try to find the source of my mistakes and understand the reasons why I made them in the first place. I think this will make a great contribution to my English studies. In addition, this strategy is not only useful for learning English but also useful for other subjects.

In conclusion, when facing a mistake, we must be brave to correct it and track its source. Firstly, don’t be nervous. Everyone makes mistakes while learning, and just face them bravely. Secondly, while facing mistakes, think more about their origin, which is the key to success.

Remember, only correcting the answers doesn’t have a deep effect on your study. It is more helpful to track the source of your error, and only by doing that can you really learn and master new knowledge.

Thirdly, collecting your mistakes can also play an important role in your studies, and writing your mistakes down in your notebooks is a good way to do this.

Finally, let’s try our best to overcome our errors by applying this new strategy of “self-monitoring” which is a wonderful strategy for you and me.
