A TOTAL of 28 top Muay Thai fighters from China, Italy, Sweden, Russia, Brazil, Scotland, Thailand, Japan and other countries and regions competed for the gold belt at the first WBC Eastern Warring Dragon (EWD) international Muay Thai Championship at the Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Center on Monday night.

Thai boxer Manachai defeated Brazilian boxer Julio Lobo in the 65kg division and won the gold belt. A total of 14 fierce bouts were presented. Two highlights are the one between the 34-year-old Thai Lumpinee champion Singdam and Swedish fighter Mathias Jonsson in the 66kg division and the one between the new star Thai fighter Manachai and Brazilian fighter Julio Lobo in the welterweight division.

Singdam’s strong right round-house kick hit his opponent at the right point many times, which won continuous applause from the audience. Jonnson fought back with kicks, but Singdam still won the game with his frequent attacks.

The new Muay Thai super star Manachai hit his opponent’s legs with continuous powerful kicks and won after five fierce rounds.

The championship, a joint effort of the International Muay Thai Council, World Boxing Council, International Boxing Council (IBC) and Eastern Warring Dragon, is the first time that a China Muay Thai sporting event has entered the international community.

Accompanied by staff members of IBC and EWD, founder of EWD Song Ke flew to Bangkok on Sept. 19 to receive the appointment as the president of WBC MUAY THAI South China Committee.
