Man detained

A MAN was detained Oct. 28 by Shatoujiao Customs for allegedly smuggling about 4 kilograms of Chinese eaglewood, an endangered species under State protection. Customs officers became suspicious after seeing the man’s backpack through an X-ray machine. The officers opened the backpack and found wood products along with incense. The products were later confirmed to be Chinese eaglewood. The man told customs that he had been paid HK$200 (US$26) to carry the backpack across the border.

Drug suspect

A MAN was detained for allegedly dealing drugs in Guangming District on Oct. 28. The man hired a Didi driver to deliver a birthday cake, which attracted the attention of police. With the clues provided by the Didi driver, police tracked down the suspected drug dealer, identified as Huang, and found about 1 gram of drugs hidden inside a cigarette package with Huang. Later the police found three packets of the drugs inside the birthday cake. Further investigation continues.
