Experts share views on Greater Bay Area development
    2018-11-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A NUMBER of academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and leading scholars from Shenzhen and Hong Kong gathered at a summit held in Futian District on Nov. 1 to share their views on the coordinated development of new energy, industrial layout and urban cleaning, talent flow and the integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Lyu Yuyin, Party chief of Futian District, gave a welcoming speech at the summit. According to Lyu, 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up and is also a critical period in the comprehensive development of the Greater Bay Area.

During President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Shenzhen, he pointed out that Shenzhen should enact more pragmatic and innovative reform measures, explore more replicable experiences and play a greater role in deepening the cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong and promoting the construction of the Greater Bay Area.

In particular, Futian, which is home to the Shenzhen part of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science & Technology Innovation Special Cooperation Zone — bears heavy responsibilities in the glorious mission of engaging in the collaboration, said Lyu.

As the central urban district of Shenzhen, Futian has always attached great importance to talents. It is also the second time that the district has hosted the summit.

This year, the summit is focused on the challenges and development of the Greater Bay Area and the SZ-HK high-tech zone. On top of the agenda is the discussion of technological innovation.

Chen Qingquan, academician of CAE and professor at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), made suggestions about the status quo of the new energy industry, its prospects for global application and how to coordinate the development of the industry in the Greater Bay Area.

Lee Chack-fan, former vice chancellor of the HKU, shared his opinions on the current problems regarding talent exchange between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, as well as the differences in the legal and administrative systems, regulatory policies and cultures of the two cities.

Other academicians also conducted exchanges addressing the industrial layout, urban cleaning and planning in the Greater Bay Area, as well as the utilization of underground space in the Lok Ma Chau Loop Area.(Zhang Yu)
