WITH performances brought by art troupes and performers from China, Russia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries, an opening ceremony was held Nov. 2 to kick off an international community carnival at Xiangmihu in Futian District.

The three-day carnival featured diversified activities for expatriate residents living in the Xiangmihu community, an enclave of residents from different countries and backgrounds in Futian District.

An exhibition of artwork created by both Chinese and expatriate teenagers were put on display during the carnival. Also, a handful of pavilions showcasing different countries’ cultures and unique folk costumes have been built at the square of the Donghai City Plaza.

Other activities featuring traditional cultures of various countries also brought an exotic festive weekend to the residents living in the community.

At the opening ceremony, Zhang Zhibin, Party chief of the Xiangmihu Subdistrict Office, said that the office had been making efforts to help international residents get accustomed to life in the subdistrict.

Similar to Shekou in Nanshan District, Xiangmihu also accommodates a large number of expatriate residents, especially people from South Korea.

The subdistrict office constructed a pedestrian street with Southeast Asian-style features in the neighborhood and built two service stations at the Donghai and Qiaoxiang communities to provide services for expatriate residents.
