CPI increase

THE food prices in Shenzhen dropped by 0.7 percent in October compared to September, according to the latest consumer price index (CPI) released by the statistics bureau last week.

The prices for vegetables and eggs dropped, while those for fruit and pork increased.

The rise in the price of fruit was mainly caused by weather and seasonal changes that have reduced supply, the bureau said.

Parking lots

FIVE parking lots, offering 2,200 parking spaces, will be built in Meilin Yichun housing estate in Futian District, the city’s largest government-funded housing estate, through renovation and expansion projects.

Vertical Automated parking systems will be installed in the parking lots to save space and improve land use. Some underground parking garages will be built under the sports grounds to save space.

Drone exports

THE number of drones made for export in Shenzhen reached 600,000 in the first half of the year, accounting for 80 percent of China’s total, according to sources from Shenzhen Drone Association.

In 2017, drone production in China increased by 67 percent and export volume reached 11 billion yuan (US$1.57 billion).

Motorbike deaths

SHENZHEN reported 417 traffic accidents relating to motorcycles and e-bikes that led to 95 deaths and 418 injuries in the first 10 months of the year.

The number of accidents increased by 18.8 percent, while fatalities and injuries dropped by 5.66 percent and 19.3 percent, respectively, year on year.

Of the fatalities, Longgang and Bao’an districts reported 57 deaths and the illegal use of motorist lanes and going against traffic were major causes of the accidents.
