“SEEING AI” is an app that Microsoft launched in 2017 for the visually impaired. By simply picking up the phone and pointing the camera at a target, the app can describe the surroundings for people in need.

“By combining technology and AI seamlessly, Microsoft hopes to use technology to enhance and expand human capabilities and therefore solve key problems,” said Alain Crozier, corporate vice president, chairman and chief executive officer of Microsoft Greater China Region (GCR) at the China Hi-Tech Forum 2018 on Thursday. “Microsoft hopes to provide artificial intelligence to everyone’s daily lives.”

Aiming to empower everyone and bring more benefits to the entire society, Microsoft supports companies that create combined AI solutions, according to Crozier. As China’s first international cloud service provider, Microsoft launched its first Windows Azure cloud computing service in China in 2014.

As the industry’s first public cloud provider, Amazon Web Services subverted the traditional IT consumption model and popularized AI technology, according to Alex Yung, corporate vice president and managing director of AWS Greater China, Amazon, at the China Hi-Tech Forum on Thursday. “Amazon has introduced AI technologies into medical, financial, health, online education and other industries, and we are proud that many domestic startups succeed in this area by using AWS.”

In this changing world, Crozier stresses the importance of standardized use of technology and that the development of AI should follow ethical norms. “We should manage data privacy, including access to data, where the data is located and how to use the data,” said Crozier, adding that strengthened technical security protection is also a must.

As a city of technology, Shenzhen has developed into one of the most important economic centers in the world, said Crozier. “There are many engineers, research and development centers, and innovative companies. We should continuously promote innovation to solve the upcoming challenges,” he added.
