HYDROGEN fuel cells are expected to play a crucial role in the 21st century energy transition, it was disclosed at the 2018 International Engineers Conference and China (Shenzhen) Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Summit, which was held Saturday at the 20th China Hi-Tech Fair.

With more than 600 experts from home and abroad and representatives from Shenzhen enterprises, the summit, which was organized by the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology and the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission, explored the development of hydrogen energy and fuel cells in Shenzhen from the perspective of policy, academia, technology, industry, markets and so on.

Wang Haijiang, a professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology, analyzed the technical bottlenecks and coping strategies of fuel cell industrialization. Hydrogen and fuel cell technologies can be widely applied in stationary power generation, transportation and portable power supply, with high efficiency. “However, the commercialization of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies needs policy support, technological development and demonstration, and comprehensive efforts to overcome market challenges,” said Wang.
