Power Station to rock Bao’an Sports Center
    2018-11-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Taiwanese rock band Power Station, composed of two veteran musicians Yu Chiu-hsin and Yen Chih-lin will perform again for their Shenzhen fans at Bao’an Sports Center on Jan. 4.

As one leg on their 20th anniversary tour, the Shenzhen concert will feature the band’s most popular songs including “Walking Along Jhonghsiao East Street Nine Times,” “When” and “Rainbow.”

The duo hails from the Paiwan tribe of Pingtung County in Taiwan. Their music is characterized by fast-paced rock ballads as well as electrifying rock anthems. Their looks and long hair stand out from the mainstream Chinese pop scene because of their resemblance to typical Western heavy metal musicians.

In 2001, Power Station released their first album on a Grand Music label (later known as HIM International Music), “Walking Along Jhonghsiao East Street Nine Times.” The title track of that album (the Chinese version of a song from 1997 titled “Takie Tango” by Budka Suflera) won the Silver Award for Best Mandarin Song at the 24th RTHK Top 10 Golden Song Awards.

Yu and Yen graduated from Taiwan Adventist College in Nantou County and formed a band called Virgin Choir with some friends before forming the band Prominent Position. Finally at the age of 25, they formed Power Station.

After the release of their first album, their fame spread within the Chinese music scene in the 1990s. In 1998, they sang the theme song “When” from the drama My Fair Princess, and in 1999 they won the Best Theme Song award at the Star Awards for their song “I Can Endure the Hardship” from the drama Stepping Out. Since 1998, they have been well-known for their interpretations of opening/ending theme songs from Singaporean TV series.
