    2018-11-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Attendees listen to reports during the 2nd International Summit on Human Genome Editing at the University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong yesterday. The three-day summit, jointly held by the Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong, U.K. Royal Society, U.S. National Academy of Sciences and U.S. National Academy of Medicine, kicked off yesterday. He Jiankui, an associate professor with the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), who claimed he had succeeded in helping create the world’s first genetically edited babies, was absent from the summit. He has been on sabbatical without pay since Feb. 1 this year, according to an official statement issued on SUSTech’s official website on Monday.  Hong Kong China News Agency
