BRADLEY COOPER, the thrice Oscar-nominated actor who this year co-wrote, co-penned songs for, produced, directed and starred in a new version of “A Star Is Born,” has been chosen to receive the director of the year award of the Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) for the Warner Bros. release, for which he also was named the year’s best director by the National Board of Review on Tuesday.

The 30th edition of PSIFF is set to run Jan. 3-14, 2019. Cooper will collect his hardware at the fest’s annual awards gala Jan. 3.

Previous recipients of the honor include Stephen Daldry, Alejandro G. Inarritu, Steve McQueen, Alexander Payne, Sean Penn, Jason Reitman, David O. Russell and Robert Zemeckis.

Cooper previously received the fest’s Desert Palm Achievement Award in 2013 for “Silver Linings Playbook” and the Ensemble Performance Award in 2014 for “American Hustle.”

“Bradley Cooper makes a stunning directorial debut with ‘A Star is Born,’” fest chair Harold Matzner said Wednesday in a statement. “Cooper captures authentic performances in this moving film that has emotionally resonated with audiences everywhere and is sure to be celebrated as one of the best pictures of the year. It is our honor to present the director of the year award to Bradley Cooper.”

PSIFF previously announced several other honors to be presented at its awards gala: Glenn Close (“The Wife”) will receive the Icon Award; Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) will receive the Breakthrough Performance Award; Melissa McCarthy (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”) will receive the Spotlight Award; Alfonso Cuaron (“Roma”) will receive the Sonny Bono Visionary Award; and Green Book’s co-writer/director Peter Farrelly and stars Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali will receive the Vanguard Award. Additional honorees will be announced in the coming days.
