Mercury to drop THE minimum temperature in Shenzhen will drop to 10-11 degrees Celsius this weekend due to a cold front, said to be the strongest since autumn, that will begin to affect the city tomorrow. The city will be cloudy with drizzle and a low of 12 degrees Celsius tomorrow, the city’s meteorological observatory said yesterday, reminding everyone to take precautions against the sudden drop in temperature. Pipeline renovation THE Shenzhen Municipal Water Affairs Bureau will complete the renovation of the old water pipeline network by 2020, according to a letter responding to lawmakers. The city initiated the renovation at 3,000 housing estates in 2013, and 2 million people in 1,050 housing estates have benefited from the project. However, some of the work has been delayed since the renovation of 400 km of pipeline out of the 1,000-km network needs to be done simultaneously with road and underground projects or else cause repetitive construction and waste. Ferry service THE operator has added more ferry services between Shenzhen and Zhongshan, bringing the total number of services from eight to 14 a day. The service has become popular as the trip between the two cities on the banks of the Pearl River takes only 45 minutes. Since it was put into operation in August, 160,000 passengers have used the service. The ferry leaves Shenzhen at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. |
