THE Fifth Book Exchange Fair, which is part of the Shenzhen Reading Month, was held in Huaqiang North on Nov. 11. Covering an area of nearly 600 square meters, this year’s fair followed the timeline of the developmental track of Huaqiang North and was divided into five sections based on different periods of time: the 1980s, the 1990s, the early-2000, the present and the future. The fair offered readers a total of 2,000 quality new books. The books in the 1980s section, which was also the largest section, covered a wide range of categories including the most popular books for kids and adults on the borrowing list of Futian District Library in 2017 and 2018, people’s daily lives, philosophy, economy and management, and more. The 1990s section mainly offered books on humanities and social sciences, history, art and design. In the early-2000 section, 10 themed book stalls by 10 book facilities such as Futian District Library, Time³ Bookstore, Enclave Independent Bookstore and Sisyphe Park Books Up Coffee, brought books on travel, poetry, feminism, literature and history. Readers were encouraged to trade books with the stall owners and recommend one book on the same theme to each other. It has been a tradition for leaders from Futian District to recommend books to residents during each year’s Reading Month. This year the leaders recommended “21 Lessons for the 21st Century,” “The Course of Science” and “A Short History of Chinese Philosophy.” One thing worth mentioning was that the book “Huaqiangbei’s 40 Years of History in Images” made its national debut. Through 100 old photos, the book tells the vicissitudes of Huaqiang North being transformed from a wasteland into a modern and international street. First initiated in 2014, the Book Exchange Fair has evolved into one of the brand events of Futian District Library. (Yang Mei) |
