All buildings around reservoirs dismantled
    2018-12-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BAO’AN District has demolished all of the buildings in four areas surrounding Tiegang and Shiyan reservoirs, which provide 1.4 million cubic meters of water a day to local residents.

A total of 493 buildings in Mabu, Jingbei and Tangtou communities and in Shiyan Lake Resort inside the water resources protection area, which ensures 500 million cubic meters of water a year for 6 million residents, had been demolished by mid-December, according to a Bao’an Daily report. A total of 4,370 families were relocated and received compensation for their relocation. This was the largest private home relocation action to protect first-grade water resources in the district’s history. The water resources area covers 301,600 square meters.

The project, which covers a total area of 311,300 square meters, tops the district government’s agenda this year and accounts for one-third of the city’s total area that needs to be demolished.

For historical reasons, many illegal buildings were built inside the water protection area, posing health hazards to the water resources.

The district is now building a new residential village, covering 20,000 square meters, for the relocated residents. The new village will be put into use within four years.

China has started to conduct nationwide environmental inspections, carry out guidelines to control air, water and soil pollution, and publish its plans to realize the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as part of implementing a national plan to tackle climate change.

He said an action plan for the prevention and control of water pollution must be advanced to ensure the safety of drinking water, and that black and odorous water should rarely be seen in cities.(SD News)
