NEARLY half of the people voted for by the public as those who have affected the development of Shenzhen’s equipment industry are from Bao’an District, according to a Bao’an Daily report.

The one-month citywide selection of the influential people who have contributed to the development of Shenzhen’s equipment industry in the past 40 years ended Dec. 12, with 71 people on the list. Among them, 33 are from Bao’an.

More than 2.46 million people cast their votes in the selection.

Forty-one entrepreneurs, including Gao Yunfeng, chairman of Han’s Laser, Wu Guangsheng, chairman of Bao’an-based China Communication Technology Co. Ltd., and Wang Wei, chairman of Bao’an-based Sunwoda Electronics Co. Ltd., were selected as the leading personages, while 30 others, including Xu Zeming, chief scientist of Bao’an-based AI company Oglass, and Xu Deyong, general manager of JT, an automation equipment company based in Bao’an, were awarded as Innovative Figures.

Shenzhen’s equipment manufacturing industry has taken the lead in the Pearl River Delta, and even China. According to official statistics, the city is home to more than 3,000 equipment manufacturers yielding a total industrial output value of 350 billion yuan (US$51 billion), accounting for 60 percent of the delta’s total and 30 percent of the country’s total.

Bao’an boasts more than 200 companies engaged in businesses related to the intelligent manufacturing equipment industry, 100 of which are manufacturers of intelligent manufacturing equipment. More than 60 percent of the total output value of Shenzhen’s intelligent manufacturing equipment industry is contributed by Bao’an.

Besides, Bao’an leads China’s robotics industry, with more than 60 Bao’an firms engaging in the business. Of them, over 20 enterprises generate an annual output value of over 10 million yuan.
