Social workers contribute to community
    2018-12-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A FAMILY Fun Fair was held on the first floor of the Langxia community service center in Songgang Subdistrict on Nov. 25. A group of people that could be seen at the scene wearing appealing red vests are social workers in the community.

Although the weather was cold and it suddenly started to rain during the day, the citizens’ enthusiasm was not diminished. They showed up on time and, before the activities began, older kids were helping young kids blow up balloons and other people were happily cooperating.

One resident said that in order to enrich the lives of residents and increase the exchange and communication between neighbors, the community prepares different kinds of activities each week. Social workers can be found at almost every activity held in Langxia Community, which creates a beautiful scene in the community and helps the social workers become a part of the community.

“Hi everybody, I cooked pork soup. Would you like to have hotpot at my home?” an old woman asked social workers while carrying a bag of food. Interactions like this are very common in the community.

Earlier this year, social workers cooperated with neighbors and the neighbors’ committee to help one resident who was identified by the family name Xiao. As a result, not only did they help solve Xiao’s basic living issues but they also found a job opportunity.

In 2011, Bao’an District took the lead in piloting a scheme establishing community service centers. Haiyu Community in Xin’an Subdistrict and Dalang Community in Dalang Subdistrict were selected to be in the first batch of five pilot projects. As social worker services have improved, they have gradually been accepted by residents and become popular. Now 124 communities in the district have established 127 service centers and hired around 700 workers.

Langxia’s social workers, with their talents and professionalism, provide comprehensive services to residents and contribute to the balanced development of the society.
