Actions taken to improve water quality
    2018-12-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A DISTRICT-WIDE campaign was launched in Bao’an early this month to clear water pollution from rivers that run through the district.

Each subdistrict carried out actions to improve water quality and the ecological environment by stopping untreated waste water from being discharged into rivers, clearing silt and household waste out of the rivers, and dismantling illegal buildings within water protection and reservation areas.

In Yanluo Subdistrict, river section chiefs in every community are required to patrol the rivers each month to ensure there is no illegal discharge of untreated wastewater into the rivers in the subdistrict.

According to the Bao’an Daily, a total of 219 water discharge projects, including pipes for sewage water and rain water separately, have been completed in Yanluo Subdistrict, to make sure no untreated water flows into the Yanluo section of the Maozhou River. Some 110,676 meters of sewage water pipes and 45,894 meters of rain water pipes have been installed in the subdistrict to ensure that water is treated properly before it flows into the Maozhou River.

The Maozhou River is one of the largest rivers that flows through Bao’an District and has been known for its bad smell and polluted water.

Actions clearing polluted water have also been undertaken in other subdistricts, including Songgang, Shiyan, Hangcheng subdistricts.

Gong Jianrong, an official with Hangcheng Subdistrict Office, vowed at a work meeting that the subdistrict would severely crack down on water pollution to make the six polluted rivers in the subdistrict free of pollutants. (SD News)
