Traditional culture promoted in Xin’an
    2018-12-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A CULTURAL event highlighting filiality and kindness was launched Dec. 8 in the Shanghe Community of Xin’an Subdistrict — the home of a renowned dutiful son from the Jin Dynasty, Huang Shu — aiming to enrich local residents’ spiritual lives with traditional culture.

The event helps pass down the community’s cultural heritages. For instance, a book series covering stories of the Shanghe Community and the Huang family was released and given to the residents for free; after two years’ renovation, the Dawang Ancient Temple and the Xizhuang Library have taken on a new look; a museum was opened in Xiaode Mall, showcasing the history and skills of Shanghe Lion Dance, which is one of the signature intangible cultural heritages of the community.

Gao Rongwang, secretary of the Party Work Committee of Xin’an Subdistrict, said that promoting traditional culture in the community facilitates a sense of identity among the residents.

He said that traditional norms, such as filiality and kindness, which have been perceived as aspects of Xin’an’s spirit for thousands of years, need to be interpreted in a way that mirrors the features of the new age.
