Border crossing record THE number of travelers crossing the border via West Kowloon Station Checkpoint reached a new record of 94,000 Saturday, the winter solstice, sources from the checkpiont showed yesterday. The rise of travelers to Hong Kong was partly due to promotions for the Christmas and New Year holidays. The checkpoint administration set up a dialect broadcast at the e-lanes to serve travelers, who were generally aged people from the Chaoshan area of Guangdong Province who neither understand nor speak Mandarin Chinese. Relic transfer SHENZHEN Customs handed over 492 confiscated relics to the Guangdong Provincial Heritage Administration. The relics will be kept at Nanshan Museum. The relics include 230 pieces of porcelain, ancient coins and bronze ware. Some of them have a high historic, scientific and artistic value. This is the second time that the customs authority has handed confiscated relics over to the heritage administration. Child killed A 2-YEAR-OLD child surnamed Cai was run over and killed by a driver surnamed Huang who was turning his car at a housing estate in Xin’an Subdistrict, Bao’an District, last week. The driver didn’t see the kid playing on the ground when he turned the vehicle. He got out of the car to check when he felt his car go over a bump. The case is still under investigation. Suspected bomb A SUSPECTED bomb was found under a bridge in Shiyan Subdistrict, Bao’an District, on Friday. The suspected bomb has been transported and is being appraised, according to the police. |
