爆肝
    2018-12-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“爆” means to “explode,” and “肝” means “liver.” First used by gamers in Taiwan, this term refers to staying up late or even the whole night to play games, as there is the common belief that staying up late is bad for one’s liver. The term can be used in a more general sense and refers to staying up late to work or do stuff because the person is very keen on his project.

Example:

A: 你怎么没精打采的?

Nǐ zěnme méijīngdǎcǎi de?

Why are you so languid?

B: 昨晚没睡好。

Zuówǎn méi shuì hǎo。

I didn’t sleep well last night.

A: 一定是爆肝打游戏了。

Yīdìng shì bàogān dǎ yóuxì le。

You must have stayed up late to play games.
