Pork supply sufficient: authority
    2018-12-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE supply of fresh pork on the Shenzhen market is sufficient and the authority is working hard on the control and prevention of African swine fever, sznews.com reported yesterday, citing sources from the city’s economy, trade and information commission.

Shenzhen has expanded channels for purchasing pork so as to ensure the supply, the sources said.

As of yesterday, the number of live pigs stocked for emergency use in Shenzhen was 129,000. The stock of frozen pork was 1,260 tons. Meanwhile, beef, mutton and chicken were also sufficient for the market. Shenzhen is confident of ensuring a stable supply and reasonable prices, commission officials said.

Since the outbreak of the African swine fever in China, Shenzhen has attached great importance to the control work, the officials said. Relevant departments have closely cooperated to guarantee the pork supply.

A range of measures, such as expanding the supply channels of pork, launching emergency plans for the operation of slaughterhouses and seeking help from the national and provincial authorities, have been implemented to ensure the supply.

Additionally, various control measures, including strengthening inspection, quarantine and supervision for kitchen waste, have been put into practice.

Relevant authorities will continue with their efforts to ensure the stability of the meat market, the officials said.

In another development, China yesterday confirmed a new case of African swine fever in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

On a farm of 90 pigs in Huizhou’s Boluo County, 11 were confirmed infected with the viral disease and 11 were dead, the ministry said, citing a China Animal Disease Control Center report released yesterday.

Local authorities have initiated an emergency response to block, cull and disinfect all the affected pigs.

African swine fever is a highly contagious, viral disease that infects pigs but not humans or other animals.

China reported its first case of the disease in August in Liaoning Province. Later outbreaks were reported in other provincial regions.
