Train ticket

Starting Thursday, residents from China’s two SARs and Taiwan are able to purchase train tickets online through streamlined* procedures optimized by the railway authority, reported Shenzhen Commercial Daily.

Previously, passengers holding the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents or the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents have needed to have their IDs verified at counters at mainland railway stations after registering on 12306.com with mainland smartphone numbers. Now, the registration and verification can be totally completed online once they provide names, ID numbers, birthdates and the expiry dates of their valid IDs.

Income tax

A new personal income tax app, developed by the State Administration of Taxation, will start serving taxpayers this week, helping them receive additional deductions, after a new rule was introduced over the weekend, high-ranking officials said.

At a State Council Information Office policy briefing, Liu Lijian, the administration’s chief auditor, outlined ways to apply for additional deductions* on taxable* personal income under the new rule.

Cancer girl lawsuit

The father of a 7-year-old cancer patient who died after taking medicine supplied by Quanjian Group instead of receiving treatment at a hospital, said he plans to make a second attempt at suing the company. Quanjian is an herbal drugmaker based in Tianjin Municipality.

“I will sue Quanjian again,” Zhou Erli, who spoke on condition of using the pseudonym*, told news website ThePaper. “I have some new evidence, and I have the time to do it.” Zhou lost a lawsuit against the drugmaker in 2015 shortly before the death of his daughter.

Bus crash

At least five people were killed and 22 others injured after a hijacked bus in East China’s Fujian Province crashed into pedestrians* on the street last week, local authorities said.

The incident occurred in the city proper of Longyan. The 22 injured, including one with serious injuries, have been taken to local hospitals for treatment. Police cordoned* two streets on the scene in Xinluo District. (SD-Agencies)
