Note: This term, from the initial letters of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, refers to the achievement of having won all four of the major American entertainment awards. It’s coined by American actor Philip Michael Thomas, who told the Evening Sun magazine in 1984 that he wanted to win his EGOT in five years. The term was popularized in the early 2000s by the television comedy series “30 Rock.”
