Fraud on street LONGGANG police caught three suspects involved in a scam in Shanxia Community in Pinghu Subdistrict, Longgang District. A woman surnamed Chen found a purse on the road when a stranger stopped her to ask for directions. The stranger suggested splitting the money in the purse with Chen, but the purse’s owner later appeared and demanded they return the purse. To prove they were innocent, the stranger showed the owner his purse and his bank-card password, and Chen followed suit. However, the stranger secretly wrote down Chen’s bank-card password and swapped Chen’s bankcard for another card. He later withdrew 80,000 yuan (US$11,595) from Chen’s account. Chen reported it to police when she found there was only 8,000 yuan in her account. The three suspects were arrested in Chongqing and Dongguan. |
