Gala signal

THE Shenzhen subvenue of the 2019 Spring Festival Evening Gala will use a 5G network to transmit high-definition signals to the main venue in Beijing, according a successful test conducted by Huawei.

This will be the first time in the country that the latest network technology is used to transmit high-definition TV signal.

Rumormonger

A MAN surnamed Peng, 40, was summoned by police for spreading a rumor on WeChat that the city’s traffic police bureau rake in 50 million yuan (US$7.25 million) a day through collecting fines.

Peng fabricated the content with unconfirmed pictures to attract attention, causing bad consequences, police said.

Peng deleted the article, applied to freeze his WeChat account and wrote a letter of regret to police after being reprimanded.

Illegal employers

TEN employers were exposed in the last quarter of 2018 by the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau for illegally charging training fees, forcing employees to work overtime, delaying salaries or even refusing to pay salaries.

The 10 employers owed 7.29 million yuan in back salaries to their 754 employees.

Questionable death

THE parents of a 2-year-old who died after coming down with a fever have questioned Shenzhen Children’s Hospital over possible negligence.

The child was taken to the hospital Jan. 9 for cough and fever. During the night, he looked pale and his hands and feet were cold. The boy’s condition deteriorated, but doctors didn’t provide treatment because it was late at night, according to the boy’s mother.

On Jan. 10, the child died after emergency treatment failed.

The hospital responded by saying that the child had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and his condition was stable during the night, and suggested that the parents take legal action to solve the dispute.
