SZSO

Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) will collaborate with German pianist Gina Alice Redlinger to present Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43.” The orchestra will also play Prokofiev’s “Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, Op. 100,” and conductor Lin Daye will wield the baton.

“Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43” is a concertante written for solo piano and symphony orchestra, closely resembling a piano concerto, albeit in a single movement. Rachmaninoff himself, a noted interpreter of his own works, played the solo piano part in the piece’s premiere with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Lyric Opera House in the United States in 1934.
