The educational games professional board of the China Association for Educational Technology joined hands with the Shenzhen Futian Academy of Educational Sciences to set up the first country-level experimentation area for game-based math learning at Shenzhen Futian Donghai Experimental Primary School on January 9. The workshop for game-based teaching of renowned teacher Yao Tielong was also unveiled on the same day. Yao is a primary school math teacher and researcher in Futian who is dedicated to the development of primary school math game courses and the establishment of the YTL (Yourself/Think/Learn) Math Game Course System. Yao stresses the blending of gaming elements with knowledge, self-directed learning and thinking by students, and self-management during game time. Over the past four years, Yao and her team of game-based math course creators have created Math Game Week, game festivals, over 300 game-based programs and over 100 game cases, and have set up eight game-based teaching bases, game-based teaching workshops and a game-based math laboratory at Donghai Experimental Primary School.
