    2019-01-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BAO’AN District topped Shenzhen in expenditure on people’s livelihood last year, according to a Bao’an Daily report early this month.

It spent 36.9 billion yuan (US$5.4 billion) on improving people’s livelihood and public safety in 2018, beating all of its counterparts in the city. The figure accounts for 84 percent of the district’s general public budget expenditure for 2018.

Of the total, 8 billion yuan went to education, up 17 percent compared to the previous year. The money was used to boost the development of preschool and compulsory education.

Another 3 billion yuan was used to better medical services in the district, an increase of 14 percent over 2017.

The expenditure on energy conservation and environmental protection amounted to 8.8 billion yuan, rising 91 percent compared to 2017.

The money was used to treat major polluted rivers, such as Maozhou River, and for environmental protection in areas surrounding the Tiegang and Shiyan reservoirs, as well as upgrading water supply pipelines.

Around 5.7 billion yuan was invested in improving community administrative services and urban maintenance, up 30 percent over 2017.

The district spent 3.9 billion yuan on improving public safety, growing 13 percent, by increasing manpower in community security and firefighting, purchasing firefighting equipment and funding the district’s police work.

Bao’an’s fiscal revenue reached 61.9 billion yuan in 2018, according to a year-end financial data meeting. Its tax revenue hit 65.7 billion yuan and general public budget revenue topped 26 billion yuan.

Shenzhen’s fiscal revenue was 910.2 billion yuan last year.(SD News)
