Bao’an robotics company makes a splash at CES
    2019-01-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

UBTECH Robotics Inc., a robotics company based in Bao’an District, was among the 456 Shenzhen companies that had an impressive presence at the 2019 CES from Jan. 8 to 11 in Las Vegas, the United States.

Before CES officially kicked off, the organizers had already announced the list of honorees for the 2019 CES Innovation Awards. The Bao’an company’s Wukong (Monkey King) Robot had secured a place for its innovativeness.

The CES Innovation Awards program recognizes among 28 award categories. The judges include world-renowned designers, engineers and professionals in the field of science and technology, examining the entries from various dimensions such as design, functionality and product competitiveness.

The program is aimed to commend and celebrate outstanding product design and engineering in brand-new consumer technology products.

Jointly launched by Ubtech and Tencent Jingle, the Wukong Robot is a relatively mature small-sized intelligent robot set for mass production across the world, according to Ubtech. It realizes the commercial application of technologies such as artificial intelligence speech, facial recognition, and object recognition in a humanoid robot.

Ubtech also unveiled its most advanced robots with new versions of the Walker, a bipedal humanoid robot, and Cruzr, a customized, cloud-based humanoid service robot, at this year’s CES.

Ubtech was also one of the four Shenzhen enterprises that won a gold prize at the 20th WIPO-CNIPA Award for Outstanding Chinese Patented Invention and Industrial Design. It was the first time that the company had entered the competition.

The three other local award-winning companies are Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceutical Co., Zhuli Zhiye Shenzhen Electrical Appliance Industry Co., and Winners’ Sun Plastic Electronics (Shenzhen) Co.

According to the National Intellectual Property Administration, 30 enterprises were selected for this year’s gold prize for their outstanding patented inventions, while 10 others won for their industrial designs. Ubtech’s entertainment robot took home a silver prize for industrial designs.

The technical scheme protected by the patents has been successfully applied to Jimu Robot, an intelligent programming robot for STEM education, according to the company.

According to incomplete statistics, the 40 gold-prize projects had seen increases of 83.5 billion yuan (US$12.13 billion) in sales, 13.9 billion yuan in profits and 18.6 billion yuan in exports by the end of 2017, which strongly supported the high-quality development of related industries.

Co-organized by the National Intellectual Property Administration and World Intellectual Property Organization, the award selects outstanding patented projects based on four evaluation standards, namely quality, technological advancement, application and protection measures, as well as effectiveness, social benefits and development prospects.
