Orchid exhibition opens in Bao’an
    2019-01-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE 2019 Shenzhen Orchid Exhibition will be open to the public today and will run through Feb. 20 at Yuleyuan in Yanluo Subdistrict, Bao’an District, sznews.com reported, citing information released by the city’s urban management bureau.

The exhibition has outdoor and indoor scenic areas. A banyan-feige tree that fell during Typhoon Mangkhut that swept through the city in September was chosen as the framework of the outdoor area, which is decorated with various species of orchids and other green plants.

The indoor area, in a greenhouse covering more than 7,000 square meters, is themed around Chinese New Year celebrations. Thousands of more than 100 types of orchids were arranged to create more than 20 scenic themes.

Additionally, a 100,000-square-meter flower sea was created in the exhibition area, divided into three themed sections, namely a romantic flower sea decorated by garden cosmos, a fantasy flower sea with zinnia and rape flower, and a wetland flower field with cosmos and spider flowers that are expected to be in full blossom in March. More types of flowers, such as orychophragmus violaceus and common poppy, will be introduced later, the report said.

The exhibition is jointly held by Shenzhen Flower Association and Shenzhen Donghua Garden Joint-stock Co. in response to the city government’s plan to develop Shenzhen into an international flower city. Residents can buy tickets through the Donghua Garden official WeChat account, “sz25884051,” or the Meituan app. (Wang Jingli)
