With the Chinese New Year just around the corner, the annual Spring Festival travel season, also known as chunyun, started Monday, as tens of thousands of people traveled home to see their family. It has been called the largest annual human migration in the world. The chunyun period usually begins 15 days before Lunar New Year’s Day and lasts for around 40 days. It is a long-held tradition for Chinese people to reunite with their families during Chinese New Year. Official figures showed that about 1.42 million people have left Shenzhen to go back to their hometowns over the past three days.(SD News) |
