Although you can escape the sanctions of the law, you can’t escape the inquiry of conscience in the end.

It is said that committing crime is the nature and original desire of human beings. In my opinion, “And Then There Were None” is the most blood-curdling and creepy of all Christie’s creations. While the plot makes your hair stand on end, you can’t help marveling at the delicateness of the crime.

The story is written in the way most of Christie’s works are — a group of people get stuck in a place where nobody can come or go, while the murderer is among them, which means they are totally isolated from the outside world. People are trapped there and die as the feeling, “You are next to go,” overwhelms them and fear is cast upon them like a shadow. All one can do is make assumptions and curse others. Therefore, every collaboration and cooperation is filled with suspicion and mistrust. On the brink of death and confronted with desperation, everyone’s human nature is exposed without any disguise.

In the movie, you cannot even tell who is controlling the story and what affects the tone, the voice, or the language — Christie just puts the thoughts of the characters there, without telling you whose thoughts they are. And no one can tell who the murderer is while watching this film.

After watching this film, I was lost in thought. I had absolutely no idea who the culprit could have been, even though their motivation became clear fairly early on. It will be interesting to have a discussion about the morality of each murder as it plays a fairly heavy role in the plot. Still, I wonder whether people got what they deserved or if any of the characters were punished unjustly. Warfield, the old judge, punishes others for their prior actions, but we can’t tell whether he is right or not. In trying to create “justice,” he himself becomes a murderer, and unfortunately, no one can help him. For some people, the island is the end of a terrible fate, but for the old judge, it is the end of everything. Although the crime is revealed and the fate is tried, the shackles of his heart, which remained hidden for many years, are opened and his heavy heart is released.

Thrill, fear, human nature, all of these components come together to create a captivating murder mystery masterpiece that will leave you on the edge of your seat. “And Then There Were None” is a must-see mystery that will leave you hungry for a sequel.
