Demolition of Huangmugang Flyover starts
    2019-02-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HUANGMUGANG Flyover in Futian District will be dismantled during the Spring Festival holiday period between Jan. 29 and Feb. 17, according to a plan released by Shenzhen Rail Office.

Nigang Road East, Huafu Road, Sungang Road West and Huaqiang Road North will be partially closed during the demolition work, and a total of 56 bus routes will be adjusted accordingly. The area will be turned into a comprehensive transport hub integrating three Metro lines.

The overpass bridge will be dismantled and the ground traffic will be controlled by traffic lights at intersections. However, the north end of Huaqiang Road North will remain closed for the Metro project, which will be completed by the end of 2022.

Temporary lanes have been built for vehicles. Among the three lanes turning right in the direction of Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital, two are specially reserved for vehicles going to the hospital. A branch bus route linking Bijiashan Bus Terminal and Yihu Bus terminal and a circular route around the Huaxincun area offer free rides for residents in the neighborhood until the end of the demolition project.

The overpass bridge, built decades ago, has fragmented the ground area, especially the slow traffic system. The mixture of vehicles on the ground poses risks to safety, according to a notice from the city’s rail construction office.

Huangmugang Metro Station will be an interchange station for the existing Metro Line 7, the under-construction Line 14 and the future Line 24. The hub will cover an area of 135,000 square meters. The construction project includes the renovation of Sungang Road West, Huafu Road, Huaqiang Road North and Nigang Road West, which are currently connected by the flyover. (Han Ximin)
