Boys almost drift to open waters on foam boards
    2019-02-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TWO teenage boys, driven by curiosity, pieced together a small raft with foam boards and played on it in the sea in Dapeng New Area. However, they were carried away by waves and almost drifted into open waters, Shenzhen TV reported.

The pubic security department in Dapeng recently received a call from tourists who claimed that their children were stuck out at sea while playing at Xiabagang Beach in Kuichong Subdistrict.

The police contacted rescuers immediately after receiving the call and locating the children’s position. Subsequently, the police, together with the fishery administration brigade and subdistrict office staffers, went to perform the rescue operation.

According to Liang Xintao, a policeman with Kuichong Police Station, the two children were pulled out to sea by huge waves. One of them tried to push the foam boards back towards the shore, but failed. They were rescued at about 300 meters from the shore.

The two teenagers, aged 17 and 13, are brothers. They traveled to Dapeng with their parents the day of the incident. (Zhang Yu)
