Driver detained

A DRIVER surnamed Liu was detained for drunk driving after a rear-end collision with another car that was waiting for a traffic light in Longgang District.

After the collision on Wuhe Boulevard on Feb. 11, both parties failed to resolve privately, police officers were called in to the scene to handle it.

Liu made a phone call to his friend, surnamed Sun, and told him to drive his car away. Liu lied to traffic police officers by saying that Sun was driving the car at the time of the accident.

Liu’s blood alcohol content reached 133.24 mg per 100 ml, surpassing the legal limit of 80 mg per 100 ml for drunk driving in China, but Liu insisted he hadn’t been driving the car and Sun was the driver.

Sun later admitted to the traffic police that he had lied.

Contract dispute

FUTIAN District People’s Court helped a culture and art company recover 33.8 million yuan (US$4.97 million) from a property development company over a contract dispute.

In a ruling, the Futian court ordered the property development company to pay 66.25 million yuan to the art company for defaulting on payment.

After the ruling, the court initiated an emergency procedure to detain the manager of the real estate company, surnamed Liu, as it suspected Liu had intentionally transferred away and hid a large amount of the properties under his name.

Liu agreed to initially pay 33.8 million yuan to the debtor after a four-hour negotiation.

CPI increase

THE city’s CPI in January increased by 3 percent year on year, according to the Shenzhen survey team of the National Statistics Bureau.

Food prices increased by 3.5 percent and nonfood prices increased by 2.8 percent, the official statistics showed.
