Experiment video goes viral on social media
    2019-03-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

物理实验视频爆红抖音

A video of a physical science experiment titled “3+1=3?” has gone viral on short video app Douyin (also known as TikTok), garnering 4.3 million hits and nearly 20,000 likes in just one day.

The video, which explains the application of Newton’s second law of motion, was filmed by Huang Zhengyu, Zheng Jinghua and Feng Yaqi, three physics teachers at Shenzhen No.2 Experimental School.

It is an instructional video on weight and weightlessness, with the aim to combine teaching and experiments so that students can understand the theory better.

According to Huang, instead of assigning too many written exercises, teachers should create scenarios through which students can better understand physical laws.

The innovative video has also won favor with students. Shi Hao, a 10th grader, said the video, by being launched on Douyin, can attract many people to notice the interesting sides of physical science experiments.

Another student said he didn’t expect the video would receive so many hits. In fact, such an experiment is very common in ordinary classes. He believed these experiments could arouse students’ interest in physics and help them learn better.

Huang added that he had never thought that the video would grab so much attention. It prompted him to think about how new media would facilitate teaching and how to let more people gain access to such an innovative method.(Zhang Yu)
