Slavery in the U.S.

As we all know, slavery in the colonial era of the United States in the 1700s was a great cruelty. All kind of slaves were denied humanity whatever job they did. Unfortunately, similar cases of slavery have been reported sporadically around the U.S. nowadays, suggesting the problem has not been eliminated. Nevertheless, being a slave on the plantation in the 1700s of the U.S. was worse due to deficiency of food and no organizations that helped slaves.

To begin with, modern-day slaves get more food every day than slaves in the 1700s in the U.S. According to an article named “Slavery in the U.S.A” written by Price M. Butler about Savannah, GA, “...their food being rice and beans, with occasionally a bit of bacon and corn bread” (Butler, n.d.).

On the contrary, modern-day slaves can generally get full three meals every day. It can be concluded from the essay written by Cleve R. Wootson, Jr. which states that modern-day slaves have bread and water every day (Wootson, 2016). Accordingly, the slaves before was more difficult to get enough nutrition than slaves nowadays.

Besides, organizations exist now the U.S. help modern-day slaves escape instead of allowing them to be exploited.

On the grounds of a piece of news in 2016 in the U.S., a federal jury convicted a Fort Worth woman of labor trafficking two women that she illegally brought into the U.S. from Mexico and forced them to work for her without pay (Federal jury convicts Fort Worth woman of forced labor, harboring illegal aliens, 2016). There is no doubt that the lack of organizations in the 1700s caused the worse circumstances colonial slaves had.

In general, being a slave on the plantation in the 1700s in the U.S. is worse than being a slave the U.S. now due to deficiency of food and no organizations. However, slaves do need our help all the time.

Therefore, whenever slaves are living, we should spare no efforts to give them a hand, especially the government.
