Book giveaway encourages reading among workers
    2019-03-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FUTIAN Federation of Trade Unions has been giving away books to workers in the district via the official WeChat account “Futian Gonghui” (whose WeChat ID is: SZFTZGH) as a regular monthly event on its online reading room activity since Feb. 23.

Over 1,900 people participated in the weeklong event that ended Feb. 28, and a total of 200 books, ranging from classic masterpieces like the Four Great Classic Novels to popular best-sellers like “Wandering Earth,” were given away through a lottery system on the official WeChat account. Aiming to forge a trademark event that enriches the spiritual life of employees at a grass-roots level, the online reading room of the Futian Federation of Trade Unions, which was founded last year on the WeChat platform, will give away over 100 books each month this year.

Extensive reading has been promoted among workers in a way that combines online and offline measures synergistically. The federation, in collaboration with the Futian Library and the Futian District Culture and Sports Bureau, has established a collection of reading facilities at various enterprises, service stations and industrial parks across the district.

According to the feedback collected from staff members on a regular basis, popular books, such as the household classics from home and abroad, and reference books like encyclopedias and dictionaries, are highly appreciated by the readers and can offer great help in cultivating good reading habits.
