Primary school initiates museum resources course
    2019-03-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Baihua Primary School in Futian District on March 5 reached a consensus with Shenzhen Museum on a teaching program that features museum-school cooperation.

The collaboration aims to give full play to the role of the museum’s resources in childhood education. Zhong Xiong, deputy principal of Baihua Primary School, and a research group with the school visited the museum and took part in the collaboration on the day of the event.

Shenzhen Museum has abundant historical and cultural resources, according to Zhong. The primary school hopes to launch a new attempt at schooling with the help of museum resources, so that students can walk out of the classroom and cultivate their spirit of exploration.

The program is also intended to cultivate students’ ability to collect, analyze and process information, to innovate, and to evoke their interest in museum learning while also helping them understand local history and provide them with cultural experiences.

Ye Yang, curator of Shenzhen Museum, is full of positive expectations and strongly supports the program. He hopes that the cooperation will enable the museum to better serve basic education and become an ideal place for primary and secondary school students to learn, explore and create.

In order to promote the cooperation, Baihua Primary School has specifically set up a research group for the program, which has been approved by the district’s education bureau.

Presided over by the deputy principal, the research group is composed of the school’s key young teachers. The museum will conduct training for the school’s teachers, and in the near future, a museum resources course will become a part of the school’s curriculum.
