Dead porpoises

ANOTHER finless porpoise was found dead in the waters off Dapeng New Area on Wednesday, two days after a dead finless porpoise was found in the same area, according to Shenzhen TV.

Both were adult female finless porpoises. Experts are still trying to determine what caused the deaths.

It is the third consecutive March that dead finless porpoises have been found in the waters off Dapeng. March is the breeding period for finless porpoises, according to experts. After delivery, adult finless porpoises usually bring their small ones to play just offshore, which might explain the high incidence of fatal accidents. Operators of vessels have been reminded to avoid accidentally injuring rare aquatic animals.

Wet week

SHENZHEN will be cloudy with scattered drizzle in the coming week due to weak cold air that started to affect the city Thursday.

The temperatures will range between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius. As the flu index for the coming week has been raised to level III, the vulnerable level, meteorologists have reminded residents to take precautions.
