Education Ministry to promote programming among students
    2019-03-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

According to the guidelines on education informationization and network security for 2019 issued by the Ministry of Education on March 13, the ministry will launch an information literacy assessment, set up artificial intelligence courses and promote programming education among primary and secondary school students and will compile the development plan for China’s intelligence education.

In 2019, the Education Ministry will carry out a student information literacy cultivation campaign, finish the construction of an assessment indicator system for students’ information literacy, set up an assessment model and launch the information literacy assessment among primary and secondary school students.

It will also expedite the set-up of artificial intelligence courses in primary and secondary schools to promote programming education step by step. At the same time, it will facilitate the employment of new technologies such as big data, virtual reality and artificial intelligence in education.

The ministry will hold the 2019 national education informationization work conference, organize research on how to push forward intelligence education, compile a national intelligence education development plan, and co-host an international artificial intelligence and education conference themed “education in the era of artificial intelligence: opportunities and challenges.”

Additionally, it will comprehensively regulate the management and use of campus apps, carry out a special survey on campus apps, and take joint actions with the departments of Internet and information technology to clean up the mess on campus apps.

The document issued by the Ministry of Education makes it clear that it will study and formulate opinions on regulating the management of campus apps, regulate the introduction of third-party campus apps and the construction of independently developed campus apps, explore the establishment of a long-term mechanism regulating the management of campus apps, and promote the orderly and healthy development of mobile Internet.
