Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z, Chance The Rapper to headline Woodstock 50
    2019-03-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE iconic 1969 edition of Woodstock shaped a generation past. Half a century later, the music festival hopes to recapture that defining moment in history with the help of Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z, Chance the Rapper, Imagine Dragons, Halsey and more.

To be held at Watkins Glen, New York, some 400 km west of the original 1969 festival site, this year’s edition will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair by featuring legacy acts, including Santana, John Fogerty and Dead and Company, who played at the inaugural festival in 1969.

“It’ll be an eclectic bill,” festival organizer Michael Lang previously promised Rolling Stone of Woodstock 50. “It’ll be hip-hop and rock and some pop and some of the legacy bands from the original festival … I want it to be multi-generational. Woodstock ’94 was a nice mix of young and old and that’s kind of what we’re going for here.”

The final lineup lives up to Lang’s promise with hip-hop (Jay-Z, Chance the Rapper, Run the Jewels, Common, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, Princess Nokia), rock (the Raconteurs, Greta Van Fleet, Black Keys, Cage the Elephant, Courtney Barnett, Boygenius, Gary Clark Jr.), pop (Miley Cyrus, Maggie Rogers, Halsey, Janelle Monae) and country (Anderson East, Sturgill Simpson, Margo Price, Brandi Carlile).

The original Woodstock was a music festival held on a dairy farm in the Catskill Mountains, northwest of New York City, between Aug. 15 and 18, 1969, which attracted an audience of more than 400,000. Thirty-two acts were performed outdoors and the weekend is regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history.
