Fentanyl-related drugs

China will add fentanyl*-related substances to a supplementary list of controlled narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances with nonmedical use on May 1.

The decision was announced on Monday in a joint statement by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), the National Health Commission and the National Medical Products Administration. Fentanyl and its analogs* that were previously included in the list of controlled narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as the related substances in the supplementary list, will remain controlled according to relevant regulations, the statement said.

5G network

A 5G network in Shanghai’s Hongkou District, backed by Chinese telecom giant China Mobile, started trial runs on Saturday.

Wu Qing, Shanghai’s vice mayor, made the network’s first video call using a Huawei Mate X, a foldable* 5G smartphone, at the launch ceremony. A total of 228 5G base stations have been deployed in Hongkou, making it the first district in Shanghai fully covered by a 5G network and a gigabit broadband network.

Internet access

The country had 169 million minor netizens in 2018 and the Internet penetration* rate was 93.7 percent, according to a report published on March 26.

The report was jointly published by the youth rights and interests protection department of the Communist Youth League of China Central Committee and the China Internet Network Information Center. Minor netizens covered by the report are students at different levels under 18 years, but not including children under 6 years and non-student youths.

Copyright registrations

China’s copyright registrations for computer software hit a record high of 1.1 million in 2018, up 48 percent year on year, according to a report issued by the Copyright Protection Center of China (CPCC) on Thursday.

Last year, copyright registrations of software in popular areas all registered year-on-year increases, ranging from mobile phone apps, games, financial, medical, Internet-of-Things and geographical information software to cloud computing and information security software. (SD-Agencies)
