Half of teachers at elementary school expecting
    2019-04-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SEVEN teachers — half the teaching staff — at an elementary school in Goddard in the U.S. state of Kansas were all pregnant at the same time, and they insist they didn’t plan it.

“It was just kind of crazy ... It just kind of happened,” one of the moms-to-be, Katie, told Inside Edition.

Kindergarten teacher Tiffany Schmidt already has two children, aged 7 and 9.

“I was so happy everyone else was having babies because I thought I was done and ... surprise!” she said.

Principal Ashley Miller said in her two decades at the Oak Street School, she’s never seen anything like it.

“By the time the seventh one came and told me I believe I leaned across my desk and said, ‘Are you kidding me?’” she said.

She quipped, “Nobody drinks our water anymore and that is the joke throughout the district.”

Two of the teachers gave birth to baby girls in March and by October, there will be eight babies. Fourth-grade teacher Kelli Jo Sheahon is pregnant with twins.

“We were a big family before but now we’re an even bigger family!” she said.

Substitute teachers will fill the teachers’ roles while they’re out on maternity leave, Miller said.
