Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, who first joined forces as Detectives Carter and Lee in 1998’s “Rush Hour,” reunited over the weekend and teased the possibility of finally making the long-awaited fourth installment of their buddy cop franchise.

There was no caption on Tucker’s Instagram post, but the duo were both holding up four fingers in the photo. The Internet subsequently rejoiced in the hopes of “Rush Hour 4,” with even noted movie critic Chance the Rapper commenting, “Please be serious.”

This isn’t the first time in the 11-plus years since “Rush Hour 3” that the stars have promised a fourth film. Back in October 2017, Chan said he had finally agreed on a script and he was hopeful that Tucker soon would too. “It’s not about money. It’s about time to make [it],” he shared. “We’re all, like, old men. I told Chris Tucker, ‘Before we get old, please, let’s do ‘Rush Hour 4.’”

One problem for “Rush Hour 4” is that the man third-most-synonymous with the franchise is Brett Ratner, who directed all three previous films. Shortly after Chan’s interview, the Los Angeles Times released an exposé where six women accused the filmmaker of sexual misconduct. Warner Bros., which distributes the films for “Rush Hour” studio New Line Cinema, subsequently parted ways with Ratner.
