Two SZ primary school pupils chosen for 2019 Asian checkers championship
    2019-04-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Chen Yuxi and Deng Tingyu from Shenzhen Fenggang Primary School have been selected to join the national checkers team squad for the 2019 Asian Checkers Championship which will be held between June 19 and July 2 in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The two 9-year-olds were picked based on their outstanding performance in the three-day National Checkers Championship for Middle and Primary School Students, which ended on April 7, in which Chen and Deng won the second and third place respectively in the U11 women’s group for 100-check checkers after nine rounds of fierce competition.

The championship attracted a record 763 participants of 176 teams from 18 provinces and cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hebei Province, Liaoning Province and Guangdong Province. Shenzhen Shangbu Primary School and Fenggang Primary School also sent their best players to the tournament.

Shenzhen has nurtured a number of outstanding checkers players aged from 11 to 25 and many of them have been chosen for the national checkers team.
