Ginny, Shenzhen College of International Education I have performed countless times since I started to learn violin. Most of my performances were in competitions or regular plays for concerts. However, recently one of the charity clubs in our school organized a charity performance in Futian Senior Care Center, and the organizer invited me to play violin for the elderly people. I felt a little nervous at first, since I had not played violin at a place full of senior people. I wondered whether they would like a Western musical instrument playing a minuet. I thought elderly people enjoy traditional music more. With these uncertainties, I walked into the center. The other musicians and I waited at the back of the multi-functional hall in the Senior Care Center. Two guzheng players were binding plectrums to their fingers while I adjusted my violin. The dancers were dressed properly, and the singers were not talking much in order to protect their throats. Elderly men and women entered the hall slowly, with the traces of time and tide shown in their tottering but firm paces. The play began and I went up stage after a singer. I was playing a rather cheerful piece, so I stayed relaxed. My hands were sweaty, which resulted in some wrong notes. Because of that, I did not feel good about my work and was a little disappointed. Yet my father told me that he heard an old granny said to her friend that I was good at violin. She even explained why and which part was the highlight part of the piece. I became delightful, and had more confidence in my violin skills. The Qingming Festival has just passed, and rather than just worshipping our ancestors, we should also give care to the living. I cheered people up, and at the same time, I received happiness as well. As a high school student, I can merely use my talents to help people, but as I grow up, I will become stronger and I will have the ability to give more people solicitude in much more powerful ways. |
