I can’t hear you
    2019-04-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Katie Lee, G11, Nanshan Chinese International College

“If our house was falling apart,” said Greta Thunberg as she stood before the MEPs and EU officials, “you wouldn’t hold three emergency Brexit summits and no emergency summit regarding the breakdown of the climate and the environment.”

Greta Thunberg is definitely not your typical 16-year-old schoolgirl. She is, in fact, a famous climate activist who initiated the school strike. And unlike any other teenagers, she directly addressed the politicians on the climate change issue.

Her powerful speech was what inspired me to draw the comic strip about a politician ignoring citizens’ pleas for acting on climate change. Through the cartoon, I wanted to convey the message that it is time for the politicians to pull out their imaginary earplugs and listen to our voices. Also, instead of focusing on taxes, they should focus on stopping the devastating effects of global warming. It is now or never.
