BEN AFFLECK is putting on his flak jacket to tackle the true World War II tale “Ghost Army.”

Affleck will direct and star in the Universal Pictures project that is based on the book “The Ghost Army of World War II,” written by Rick Beyer and Elizabeth Sayles.

“True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote the latest version of the script, working from an earlier draft by “Shazam!” scribe Henry Gayden.

“Ghost Army” tells of a squadron of American soldiers who were picked for their creativity and ingenuity and then fashioned into the ultimate smoke-and-mirrors trick. The soldiers used blow-up tanks, fake radio transmissions and noise machines to deceive the German forces, making them believe that, among other things, armies were in certain positions where, in actuality, no armies were even close. The squad is credited in saving countless lives with their ruses.

Affleck will produce for his Pearl Street Films alongside Andrew Lazar, who will produce for his Mad Chance Productions. Pearl Street Films’ Madison Ainley will executive produce.

Affleck is coming off a starring turn in Netflix’s action thriller “Triple Frontier” and has two films in the can, among them a basketball drama titled “Torrance.” As a director, he last helmed “Live by Night,” a period gangster drama released by Warner Bros. in 2016. Before that, he directed and starred in 2012’s “Argo,” which won a best picture Oscar.(SD-Agencies)
