Pingshan’s cultural ambition: a catalyst for a strong district

PINGSHAN is showcasing its achievements in cultural development at the 15th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), which is being held from Thursday to Monday at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, the main venue of the fair.

Themed “Build a better Pingshan with splendid culture,” the exhibition booth of Pingshan District is in Hall 1 at the exhibition center, and the entire booth is designed as a “theater” symbolizing openness, inclusiveness and interaction with visitors.

“The design idea aims to present immersive experiences for visitors so that they can be the actors, audience and creators,” said Pan Weien, deputy head of Pingshan’s publicity department.

The exhibition booth highlights Pingshan’s adherence to tradition while it continues to innovate. Pingshan has developed small-scale yet high-quality cultural brands, is creating unique and attractive products, and aims to offer residents affordable yet exquisite cultural events.

The booth also displays the district’s distinctive cultural facilities and projects, such as the planned museum of natural history, Wanshi Habitat Cultural Block and Pingshan Cultural Cluster, as well as Pingshan Book Room, OCT Longtian Town and Pingshan Cultural Think Tank.

The exhibition booth has two core sections: “Pingshan Book Room” and a display space for over 100 pieces of Pingshan’s cultural and creative products developed and designed by Pingshan-based Shenzhen Eastern Cultural Development Ltd. Co.

The 2019 Pingshan International Sculpture Exhibition, a grand event under the district’s participation in the ongoing ICIF, is by all means an art feast that visitors should not miss.

Themed “Transcending Dimension: Sculpting Space,” the exhibition, now in its third year and running through May 31, is co-curated by multimedia artist and producer Li Zhenhua as well as the founding partner of Urbanus, Liu Xiaodu.

It’s the first time that Li has collaborated with the Pingshan District Government and he appreciates the district’s vision and support. “The Pingshan District Government has shown great support for our creation. I can see the district’s ambition in terms of scientific and technological development, infrastructure and improving residents’ well-being. I believe Pingshan’s future will be limitless,” Li told the Shenzhen Daily.

The exhibition is presenting the works of 26 artists from countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Japan and France, which are on display at three different venues — Pingshan Sculpture and Creation Park, the Pingshan District Government building and Wanshi Habitat.

What distinguishes this exhibition from others is its creative process. For instance, many artists mulled over their ideas by interviewing Pingshan’s residents and visiting the district’s distinctive places of interest. Some artists even collaborated with local people.

For the convenience of visitors, shuttle buses are available at Shenzhen Grand Theater at 8:30 a.m. to take visitors to Pingshan’s cultural landmarks, such as Pingshan Sculpture and Creation Park — one of the ICIF’s subvenues in Pingshan — Pingshan Culture Center and Pingshan Book Room. The shuttle service is available Saturday and Sunday, as well as May 25 and May 26.
